Digital World is Digging our Culture and Many More

There wasn't a phone. It was just telephone and it would be in the house of wealthy man or in some offices in Bhutan. There wasn't a television to watch. Only wealthy man would watch all day. If we have to watch, then we either have to gather where there is television or have to pay and watch. I can still remember how I used to walk a long way even at 1 and 2 a.m with my family just to watch movies. We rarely have time to watch television or get ourselves lost in our phone. There was no phone, no television and the world was not so digitalized at that time. Somehow those days were good and was graceful.

For now, there is no time for meals. People are engaged so much in watching television or playing mobile phones. They became so much fashionable that they forget what they should be wearing and what country they are from. If I am not wrong, we have forgotten how to pray as well. Did you ever attend some occasions and events? Did you see how they are singing national anthem? There would be already recorded background prayer where audience need not have to sing. Aren't we forgetting what we were taught? Nobody sings. There would be but very few.

Actually, we were supposed to learn and sing. If not why did we carry prayer books in school and woke up even at 3a.m running towards Multi Purpose Hall just to attend the morning prayer? Didn't we learn that we should do it by ourselves? We would have played background music even at that time too. Everything has become so easy for us now but will it not be blunder for us later because we don't know anything. It is all recorded. We even play background music for national anthem. We hardly know the sentences.

Be it a boedra or zhungdra(traditional song of Bhutan) competition. When we were young, we used to sing aloud on the school stage and dance, but now there is background music and we just have to move our lips up and down. Just because the world is digitalized, doesn't mean that we can forget what we have learned, what we are supposed to portray for future endeavors. I feel that , somehow, somewhere, we are forgetting to be ourselves and hold on what we have, what our forefathers have preserved.

I have seen this in most of the Bhutanese occasions and events held in the country. Be it a virtual competition on television (singing, dancing, anything), face to face program, celebration, occasion, events, award day or anything, I found that national anthem and prayers are recorded. I recommend them to sing with our own voice. This would be more prestigious of our own culture and what we have been doing for so long. I really want to see this change. This would make vast difference.

Let us not forget that we go to the class to learn. If we can be someone with what is there, we would have just listen to it and became who we want to be. Some people use internet to learn how to cook while some uses it to order online food because they are bored. I feel that these options are to be opted when needed.
